Tunnel Vision is my first novel, published in 1984 by Hale & Iremonger. At 98 pages, I think of it these days as a novella. Set in a Melbourne massage parlour, Tunnel Vision began my long association with the theme of prostitution. Frank Moorhouse published one of my first stories on the subject in an anthology called ‘The State of the Art’.

Helen Garner said about Tunnel Vision. ‘This is a strange and fascinating book, absolutely unsociological and unideological. Johnston achieves the difficult double feat: she creates and maintains a convincing physical world, and yet transcends it through a lovely an original imagination.’
